Marissa's Adoption

It's DONE! She's OURS! Offically! She was too cute in court. Erman and I raised our hands to state our names and Marissa was standing between us, unbeknowns to me she was raising her right hand and waiting her turn. The judge looked at her after we stated our names and she said, "Marissa Ivins" and the rest will be history...

BUY MY HOUSE!

BUY MY HOUSE!

We attempted to sell and have decided to rent. Please do not bother the renters that are currently occupying the house. This is not any short sell, the house is being kept for and everything works top notch. I know that you will enjoy the neighborhood and town of Marlton. We lived here for 13 years and are sorry to be transferred to New Mexico.

Everything is new in the house as of 4 years ago. The house was completely renovated- sinks, showers, toilets, A/C unit, wood stove, doors, etc. LARGE KITCHEN with lots of space. New Cabinets!

31 Radnor Blvd. is a beautiful home. A wonderful 2,032 square feet. It was completely renovated four years ago. Everything new: ac unit, windows, kitchen, bathrooms, drywall, tile, etc. I loved it for the large bedrooms and the extra large yard. We have 2 bedrooms upstairs and 1 bath, and the master room, bath, extra room and another full bath downstairs. Did I mention that I like the size of the rooms? Lots of attic space with entrance to attics thru both rooms upstairs.

The sluiceway next to the property is fun for the kids to catch frogs and turtles. Beeler Elementary School is just down the street(or you can cross the creek thru the path to the playground). Marlton Middle School is the MS and Cherokee High School is the HS. All wonderful schools.

If you are interested express your extreme likeness of the house to our realtor. We are only showing to possible buyers! because we have renters occupying the house.

Isaac turns 16!!! AAAHHHH!!!

Isaac, I can't believe you are 16. It seemed like yesterday you were peeing in the toilet and leaning on your toy rifle. (I couldn't find the picture to post, sorry). I just think you are such a special boy with a special purpose as are all of God's children. I know you are on the right track and with the help of your parents :) you will get there.

Lately, you have had to be the "man" of the house because of the situation. You are doing a great job. Even though you think you are allergic to cut grass, you still mow the yard. And even though you think you have a tumor on your toe, you still do your chores. And, not even a kidney stone would stop you from taking out the trash. You have been great.

I like your choices. Friends, music, words, ?girls?. Keep it up. And although we will be moving, you have kept a positive attitude. You are always optimistic. Infact, your name was "Smiley" in elementary school. You'll drive soon enough (of us crazy), so we will take our time getting your license. Enjoy your party Saturday. It will be a blast!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Love mom and dad

What's in a name?

She came to us with Heaven spelt backyards. We adored it because we adored her. But at about 3 months, we had to call her something to make her ours. We knew we would adopter her, so she went from being "Vea Vea" to Marissa! It fit! But we never could agree on a middle name. Neveah? Fern? Dahl? Whitmer? Macy? Rose? Lynn? Pauline? Roxie? Shiniqua, no just joking on the last one. Why, because in the book freadonomics it says that a name really does help a child succeed. Why, because peope make snap judgements everyday. I don't like her because she buys foods with high fructose corn syrup. Or, She drives a pinto and has her nose pierced. We have already made a snap judgment on both of those individual. The first offence is horrific, I can't believe she is allowed to have children. Any way. Back to choosing a name.

Family name. Sonafrank, Sarah Jane, Bertha, Ethelyn, Myrtle...It doesn't get much better than that.

Nothing fit. And then I say the name Mary Ellen in my family history. My great-grandmothers mother's name was Mary Ellen. It would work because of Maryellen, our Urmston. Grandma Urmston has shown her excitement from day one of being able to call Marissa ours. Her excitement made me feel that she was a welcome part of the family. And She adored her when she came to visit. Mary Ellen just fit! (and it was not a completely white name). I share that with you...

I decided to google "Mary Ellen African American" and lone-behold there was a famous African American named Mary Ellen Pleasant. Youda thunk. Well this could not sound any more pleasant to my ears than this.

Mary Ellen Pleasant was born in 1817 and died in 1904.She was partly African American decsent. Known as Mammy Pleasant, who used her fortune to further the abolitionist movement. She worked on the Underground Railroad across many states and then helped bring it to California during the Gold Rush Era. She was a friend and financial supporter of John Brown and well known in abolitionist circles. After the Civil War she took her battles to the courts in the 1860s, and won several civil rights victories, one of which was cited and upheld in the 1980s and resulted in her being called “The Mother of Human Rights in California”.

So Here is Marissa Maryellen Ivins

Our Trip to Boston...Finally!

We started on the 95 South. Went through NY City and this sign reminded us of everyone in CA living in Rosedale. There is a Rosedale near the Bronx too! Next stop, Amherst, Ma then Salem, Ma then Boston and finally Mystic CT.

We started our trip with the Eric Carle Museum in Amherst, Massachusetts. It was fun and Landon had a blast making his art is the art room. Eric Carle was taught to love nature from his father. Then on to the Emily Dickinson House.

We ate at the Black Sheep. This required a little explaining to the kids about what a black sheep is. I told them to look no further than Uncle Bob. They had other ideas, but it had the best chocolate mousse. Mmmmmm!

I am in deep thought as I read Emily Dickinson's poem.

A stop at Salem, Massachusetts gave us a chance to scare Marissa. She does not like the word witch any longer. We stopped at the "Witches House" to see if she had a microwave and we finally found one so I could make the kids their lunch. I had been searching for a microwave all morning. We visited the witch dungeon. We learned all about Tituba, the slave, that started the excitement with the young girls. She was one of the first to be accused and the first to confess. Nobody knows what happened to Tituba because she was not executed and was released from jail or dungeon.

Paul Revere is not so revered in Boston as in the Longfellow poem depicts. They explain him as he was caught on the midnight ride and gave up all information. Well, Paul Revere, I still think your a hero in my idea of the midnight ride. Even though Sam is the only one that made it, he was hangin' out at his girlfriends house that night.
This is the current North Church Tower that Paul Revere hung a lantern aloft.

Our laugh for the day. A black man's license. He said he has it because he is the only black man stationed in Maine. Must be tough? Naw, not any more. It's best to be different in the world today.
Mystic Seaport Museum

Ending it with a stop in Mystic, Connecticut was pituresque. Yes, I said it. I love Mystic. And the pizza was de-lious. The Pizza Parlor shows the movie "Mystic Pizza" continuously. The kids got the "Hobson's" choice or should we say "Mystic Choice" of watching a rated "R" movie. Some parts were quite surprising. Oh my! But, Landon closed his eyes and we enjoyed our pizza. Our dog even agreed by eating all our left overs. I could have killed him. We went to Mystic Seaport Museum and walked on the only whaling boat still around. It will cost a whopping 10 million to retore the boat next year!

Good-bye New Jersey...

We will miss the seasons. We will miss our friends and especially friends that became our family. The Shore. The city trips. (not that we really went a lot anyway). Dutch Wagon. Omish pretzels. Chicken Steak hoagies, unless it was a real philly cheese steak from Geno's. Some snow.
What the hardest person is to leave is Cameron. The bond between Landon and Cameron is a true brother hood that one has to witness. Landon takes him in under his wing and is lovingly concerned about Cameron. He has always been like this and Cameron knows this. I know things will work out. And I told Cameron's mom he can come visit us in New Mexico. Heck, he is allergic to all trees and grass, maybe NM is where he will find relief from all of his sleepless nights of coughing, sneezing and watery eyes.
